Our past waits
patiently silently
waiting to pounce on our future
ready to snuff out the flames of happiness and joy
Our past waits
stalking plotting
a constant reminder that we are neither perfect nor safe
Our past waits
on guard vigilant
watching for moments of freedom and escape
reminding us that it is a part of who we are
we cannot walk away
demanding recognition
needing to be looked at , studied and understood

I recognise that who I’m today is solely based on who I have been in the past. My story, "herstory" makes me who I’m. I have dealt with pain and joy, sorrow and fear and yet I still stand, stronger and braver than I was before. I have learned to wear my past like a badge of honour, I acknowledge it but never allow it to dictate my present. I’ve made mistakes, have learned lessons and have regrets but I would never change any of it. I took the licking and kept on ticking. I have battle wounds, tattoos that stand as testament of my strength, beauty and boldness.
You are the sum total of everything you've ever seen, heard, eaten, smelled, been told, forgot - it's all there. Everything influences each of us, and because of that I try to make sure that my experiences are positive.
